Cape Cod

I haven't posted anything in a while.. there are some major events that happened between this post and the past post but I will post them later :)

The KUPC Boston crew finally went to Cape Cod together after I moved to Boston! We picked the perfect weekend to go because the weather was PERFECT.. breezy, chilly, yet super sunny (I love SUN)

Hillsong No Other Name Concert

I finally went to a hillsong concert! everytime I wanted to go to one, the dates never worked for me.  When hillsong performed in Pittsburgh, I was not there at that time, and when they had a concert in Korea in 2012 and 2014, I was in the States. My coworker Sojin told me about the hillsong concert and this time I DID NOT WANT TO MISS IT. So I emailed my small group members and kupc members to see if they wanted to go and ended up gathering 8 people to go as a group! The tickets were 38 dollars for the floor seats not the bleacher seats.  Since I've already been to the NY hillsong church, I was expecting something similar but this concert was so much better in terms of engagement of the audience, the sermon / seminar, and the stage performance.  The stage work with the electronics definitely elevated the mood for the concert.

My favorite part of this photo is the cross in the back part of the stage.

the bleacher seats were all filled as well

Of course, selfie group photo time after the show :)

Do you see that NO OTHER NAME screen behind us?

Broken Vessels (Amazing Grace) - Hillsong (in the No Other Name Album)

Although the concert was super tiring from jumping, signing, raising my arms up the whole time, it was totally worth it.  Giving praise to God for almost 3 hours with hundreds of strangers all in one voice was.. pretty awesome. It was amazing to see everybody in the room cheering and raising their voice for God as one body in Christ. Growing up in a conservative Korean church, this was not a normal experience of worship we get. I absolutely love all the songs from the newest hillsong album "no other name" I have been listening to the album on repeat at work when I am doing experiments and it reminds me every single day why I am sent here, and what I am called to do as a daughter of Christ. Also, I am so blessed that my workplace is super flexible that I am listen to any music I want at any time of the day! Praise the Lord.

SALE: Loft Jewerly

Yesterday I had a long day at work and when I was walking home I saw a woman holding a Loft bag with a sale sign.  Retail therapy is the best! Loft was having an 40% additional OFF of sale items. I highly recommend to go check out the jewerly section, because you cannot get these for under 25 dollars elsewhere.

Necklace: $8
both magnetic bracelets: $3 each
Beaded headband: $8

I absolutely love finding good deals! it's not about spending lots of money on nice pretty items but spending the least to get the same quality.

Last bits and pieces of summer

Summer in Boston is ending soon in few weeks.  Last weekend was one of the best weekends in Boston in terms of the weather because I don't remember a single week when I didn't wear a long sleeve shirt or long pants. This week finally felt like REAL summer and Matt, Bex, Li, and I spent our Saturday walking on the Charles river.

the view of the Boston side from the esplanade.

we were able to take a short break and soak our feet in the water.  Although the water was tiny bit warmer than I thought, it was a great moment to rest and be indulged in the beauty of nature.  I am truly grateful for all three of my friends from CMU for always inviting me over to their place for comfort and food. I am truly blessed to have them in my life and I hope to return the favor once I move into my new apt with Karen!

Of course the best part of the day was eating Chef Matt's special MEATBALLS.  Hands down these were the best meatballs I have ever tasted in my life.  Also, a little addition of spinich with olive oil and salt was better than most of the high-calorie, and drenched-in-dressing type of salads.

Simply put, MY LIFE IS AMAZING!

Charles River

One thing I absolutely love about Boston is the Summer! I probably spent my summers in many different cities but this city has been so far the best because of the culture, food, park, and, my fav, Charles River.  All three cities, Seoul, Pittsburgh, and Boston, that I lived in my 20s have a river that run across the city.  The river in Korea is a lot larger and the one in Pittsburgh is not as assessable and open to attractions, which makes the Charles river my favorite of all.  Since the orchestra concert at the Hatchshell moved to the rain location, my coworker and I decided to walk by the river, which ended up being the better idea.  We started walking around 7:30PM and the sunset by the river seems so perfect in person and pictures. Here are some pictures from yesterday!

Ended the day with stuffed mushrooms from Trader Joe's!

Six Flags New England

Yesterday I finally went to six flags for the first time after high school :) the Six Flags New England is my second one after the magic mountain in one in California.  I have been hearing that the new england one is not as great as the ones in CA and NJ, but this definitely satisfied my longing for roller coasters!

The tall one behind the roller coaster is a new ride called the sky screamer but we did not get on that because the line was TOO long.

waiting time = selfie time!

One of the smaller falling rides :) the line was so short (20 min) and was super fun

Jane brought her polaroid camera and took a group photo together :)

We got super wet from one of the rides!

Overall, six flags new england was super super fun! we got to ride 7 roller coasters in 5 hours (impressive!) Now it's time to go back to work

Becoming Bostonian 101

I moved to Boston on March 27th, 2014.  Before I start posting new stuff, I wanted to dedicate a post on my life in Boston so far.  It has been a little more than four months since my first day back in the States and so much happened in those times! These are some snippets of the fun memories I had so far :)

met some amazing musicians from Berklee College of Music through my ex-roommate Ju-young :) She is also an amazing cook!

Bex and Matt are very hospitable and invited all of us to have dinner together. Thank you Bex and Matt for a delicious pasta meal :)

Then I finally moved to a new summer sublet apartment at prudential

I get to walk by the Christian Science center to go home everyday

I was lucky to be there because it was the first one to be hosted in six years!

these rose gardens at the park brighten up my day! what a secret date spot

July 4th is not July 4th without some meat and yummy food!

some whale watching experience when Leo visited

Boston public garden between day and night

After all, I am so blessed to be in Boston with amazing people, beautiful parks, and yummy food! Boston is probably one of the my favorite cities now because it is so walkable, clean, antique/historic, and strong spirited. I have not experienced the winter here yet so I don't know if I will be able to hold on my words after this year.  yet, I can assure that God has so much enstored for me in this city.  After spending two years in Korea being lost, miserable, and exhausted, He placed me here for a very clear purpose/reason that I do not know exactly at the moment. It's all by his grace that I can be here at this time point of my life because I do not deserve all this.  Praise the Lord.  I can't wait to see what will happen in next few years in this city!

The New Beginning

Since this is my first post on my blog, let me put down a small introduction to it. My name is Min Ju Kim and I am currently working as a graduate student in Dana Farber Cancer Institute. I will be staying in Boston for at least two years. I always had blogs but those never lasted long enough to have more than five posts.  So these are the reasons for this fresh new blog:

- I want to spend my time more productively and wisely, meaning no more spending hours on facebook watching stupid (and addictive) videos and photos.
- Boston is my first place to live alone as an adult.  I have so much time to myself that I wanted to spend few minutes or hours to reflect and keep a record of my life.
- I always wanted to post artsy/sophisticated photos on my blog, so this will be my challenge to do so!
- I want to post make up/clothing/shoes/nails like those fashion bloggers. (never gonna be able to reach their level though!)
- This blog will be a reminder to give thanks to God.

I hope I can keep up with this one longer than the other ones I had :)
